This has been quite an interesting week. We have had some really great discussions in class where quite a few people are really opinionated about. One thing that i think needs to be brought into the light is the fact that most of the people in this class are going to be the deceptive ones in the media trying to make people think that they have to buy a certain thing to be beautiful or what it may be. Most of us are PR major's and our job will be to make money for the company, and much of it will be through advertising. So i would suggest to every person in this class right now to make the decision in what type of employee you will be. Will you try and use sex to sell, or will you go a different route, even if your job is on the line. Will you be willing to stand up to a boss and tell him "no" that you wont do something that you think is not right. My advice would be to set your limits now and decide what is best for you. Or you may want to be the person that is well known throughout the whole company for the brilliant add's and PR movements that you have done that have made the company millions of dollars, because of your strategic moves. You will be loved by all, especially your boss, if it is that kind of a company. Anyway, i just had to laugh because i know that many of us will be in that industry, and how many are really strong enough to go against the grain. Its your decision!

  1. I think you make a great point. While we are only discussing these topics in class right now someday we will actually have to face situations where we will have to make decisions. This is a discussion I hope we'll have soon in class. Sure there are a lot of terrible things about the media, but what can we do to change it? Really the only the thing that will make the difference is if we decide to stand up for those things we believe in.

  2. This is a great point, what can we do to change the media? It would actually be very interesting to come up with other effective ideas on how we can change the media to where it's still successful. They would be ideas that we believe in and can stand by no matter what. I think there are a lot of different ways to sell a product through the media than just sex. We need to let our voice be heard.

  3. I completely agree with your point. We are all going into the deception field in one way or another. You may not agree with what is being sold or advertised but you have to follow along. The difference is you don't have to believe in it. It is just a job and you can still hold on to your believes and what is right and hopefully society does the same. Unfortunately people know what sells and the market may never change.

  4. I am personally getting sick of the whole sex sells bit. What is going to be next after we are numbed by the sex? That is my biggest question, what is next? The media is trying to use soo many shock factors with advertising that it is starting to get to be all the same crap. Will they start over? For example, having women completely clothed instead of being 3/4 naked?
